Fashion Intern - Fabulous Magazine

Hey guys! As you may know I've been interning at Fabulous Magazine in their Head Offices at Tower Bridge. I've been based at the Fashion Desk next to all the Fashion Editors, Assistants and Fashion Shoppers. It's been a great couple of weeks and my time here is still going so feel free to comment if you have any questions :)
One of the main jobs here is to look after our Fashion Cupboard. It has lots of beautiful clothes and yes I do wish I lived there sometimes! However it can get a little busy and messy, so my job is to keep it tidy, unpack new clothes and hang them ready for one of the Fashion Editors or their Assistants to pick out their favourites for their shoots. Fabulous Magazine is out every Sunday with The Sun newspaper therefore there are shoots happening every week.
This week I got to listen to The Saturdays Interview and write a transcript for one of the Fashion Journalists. It was great fun & great to know that this will be soon in a magazine!
Last week I was very lucky to get on to a shoot with one of our Fashion Shoppers. It was featuring The Pierces - an American Duo. My roles were to get all the clothes out, steam them and have them ready for the shoot in the correct order. I got to help out with the styling & had to make sure I am noting down each item's brand for the credits once they're up in a magazine. It was lovely to speak to the singers, they were so sweet and the whole day seemed relaxed but very productive! I got to see a lot of action that happens behind the scenes of a photo shoot, meet professional makeup artists, hair stylists as well as the main photographer and his assistant.
Another great thing about interning here is getting the freebies! These couples of weeks I received a lot of floral head pieces, make-up and some cheeky cup cakes :)
My favourites shoes this March! Can't get enough of them this month

One of my other jobs during the week is to call Press and find out the prices of the items that we've featuring in the magazine. This beauty is from Zara, love the soft detail & lace..
During the week I get to communicate and work along side all of the Fashion Assistants when it comes to getting ready for their shoots. These couples of weeks there were lots of shoots including Flower Blast, Rude Girl Rio, Lust List and a few more. For each shoot we must pick out clothes that are suitable for the theme, style them & pack them in suitcases ready for our courier to pick them up in the morning.
This place is great if you love a busy lifestyle, I am never bored & I can tell you that for sure hah! There are always unwanted clothes to return, answering calls, emails from Press & much more.

Hope you enjoyed reading about my time at Fabulous, I will be posting another post nearer to the end which will also include more photos from shoot and other little bits from my daily time at Fabulous.

Hope you have a lovely weekend & if you have any questions and interest in interning at a magazine and want to know more about it just comment below :)

Love, Skai x

  3. Hey :} Just wanted to ask you how do you go about getting an internship at a mag? Is it worth emailing them or is phoning them up more effective? Thanks xx

    1. Hi Cindy,

I would suggest creating a list of magazines that you would like to intern for, then use Fashion Monitor or websites such as UAL and Fashion related twitter accounts who post about new internships such as @ukfashionintern who are great to get emails from. Once you get a companies email best to email the Fashion Assistants, Juniors and never the main manager because more or less they simply won't have time to get back to you. Of course you could give a Fashion Assistant a call if you're feeling brave, sometimes companies like that, they like to hear your commitment and motivation to intern for them. Personally I've always sent emails purely because I know sometimes they're just too busy to answer and emailing is something they do daily, so I chose to email but it's totally up to you!
Make sure you take your time to write your cover letter, include a sentence or two giving a reason why you want to intern for that specific place and don't forget to attach your CV!
Last tip would be to mention your personal blog/website which will show them that you're committed outside of uni and have passion for what you do!

Hope that helps, Good luck in finding a placement :)
